Acting Chief Ryan P. Elbertson

Acting Chief of Police Ryan P. Elbertson began his law enforcement career with the City of Burlington Police Department in October 1999 as a Class I Special Officer. In 2002, he transitioned to a full-time position after successfully graduating from the Burlington County Police Academy.
 
Throughout his career, Acting Chief Elbertson has served in and supervised numerous specialized units, including the Special Response Team, Emergency Services Unit, Special Enforcement Unit, and as the Supervising Firearms Instructor. His dedication and leadership led to his promotion to Sergeant in September 2013, where he served in both the Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division.
 
In April 2019, he was promoted to Lieutenant, taking on key responsibilities as the Patrol Division Commander, Training Officer, and Fleet Manager. In January 2020, he was appointed as the Department’s Accreditation Manager, where he oversaw the implementation and maintenance of critical operational standards and certifications.
 
Acting Chief Elbertson is a graduate of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy and the prestigious FBI National Academy’s 275th Session in Quantico, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and a Master’s Degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
 
As Acting Chief of Police, he continues to exemplify leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in serving the City of Burlington Police Department and the community it protects.
