The City of Burlington Police Department would like to congratulate Lieutenant Joseph Caruso for being honored as our 2023 Trenton Thunder Hometown Hero.
Lt. Caruso started his career as a police officer in 1987 as a Special Reserve Officer within the City of Burlington. In 1995, he was hired full-time and was later awarded “Officer of the Year.” In 2002, he was assigned to the Detective Bureau. In 2003, he was awarded the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office “Pro-Cops” award for combating the drug and violent crimes throughout the county. In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he supervised the Pro-Active Enforcement Unit and Gang Taskforce. Caruso supervised the SWAT Team and was the lead Firearms Instructor for the City of Burlington Police Department. Lt. Caruso is currently the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.
