On Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at approximately 7:31 AM, the City of Burlington Police Department responded to the 1100 block of East Pearl St. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle and electric bicycle.
Upon arrival, officers found that the rider of the electric bicycle sustained extensive injuries. He was transported by aeromedical to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, NJ. The driver of the vehicle, a 28yo male from Howell, New Jersey remained on location. It is not believed that alcohol or narcotics played a part in the crash, however the incident remains under investigation. The electric bicycle rider was identified as Ivan Makaruha, age 35 of Burlington City, New Jersey.
On September 23, 2023 Makaruha succumbed to his injures.
